On March 18th, 2017 at Stanford University, Redwood’s  MATHCOUNTS team represented by Preston Fu, Rohan Kumar, Anthony Wang, and Joseph Zhang, placed second at the MATHCOUNTS NORCAL STATE competition.  All four members of Redwood’s team placed in the top 25% with three in the top 16. Preston Fu came in 4th, Anthony Wang 15th, and Joseph Zhang 16th.

To get a sense of the level of competition at these contests, to qualify for the MATHCOUNTS NORCAL STATE, Redwood’s team had to first secure one of the top spots among approximately 400 students competing in the MATHCOUNTS Santa Clara Chapter contest, reputed to be the most competitive chapter in the nation!

The top 192 students (37 teams, including all chapter champions, and 44 independents) from 15 different chapters from Northern California then move on to the California MATHCOUNTS NORCAL STATE competition. Redwood’s mathletes fielded extremely strong teams from Cupertino, Pleasanton, Fremont, Harker, and Proof School amongst others, and came in only narrowly behind Miller.

This is an incredible achievement for Redwood and for our students. Please congratulate them on their performance.
